BRITAIN'S SWITCH TO HIGH EFFICIENCY BOILERS

How this will affect you...

The Government is acting to reduce the problem of climate change. As part of this initiative there are important changes to the type of central heating boilers that can be fitted in your home.

From the 1st April 2005, changes to the Building Regulations mean that only high-efficiency Condensing Boilers are permitted in all new (and the majority of replacement) domestic installations.

This is good news for anyone concerned about saving money with reduced fuel bills, and good news for the environment.

What do the changes to the Building Regulations require?

With few exceptions all new domestic boilers fitted must be high-efficiency condensing type rated A or B on the SEDBUK scale. This scale measures the efficiency of the boiler.

BandEfficiency
Band A90% and above
Band B86% to 90%
Band C82% to 86%
Band D78% to 82%
Band E74% to 78%
Band F70% to 74%
Band Gbelow 70%

All new gas boiler installations must also adhere to the new minimum requirements for heating controls. This basically involves the fitting of thermostatic radiator valves and a room thermostat. The Gas Shop Ltd can advise on the best and most efficient way of providing heating and hot water for your home.

All installers fitting these boilers must be CORGI registered and trained in the new efficiency regulations. The Gas Shop Ltd is fully qualified to comply with the new regulations.

What's in it for the customer? Condensing boilers are up to 97% efficient. The increased efficiency over traditional boilers can mean substantial savings to your fuel bills.

After installation the householder will receive a certificate from CORGI, or the local authority, to certify that the installation meets the new regulations. This certificate will be very important should you decide to sell your house.

If it not feasible to fit a condensing boiler, the Gas Shop Ltd will recommend a standard efficiency boiler to be legally fitted instead.
